Lay Seminary Modules (2023-2024) Lay seminary consists of weekly readings, videos, discussions, and occasional journal entries to be shared with one another in the cohort. Cohort discourse occurs 5-5:40pm before Saturday evening services. In addition, there are two benchmark assignments: a mid-course exegesis paper and a final applied ministry project based on the call and vocation of each student.
Module 1: Hermeneutics (Sept. 2, 9, 16, 30) Module 2: Hebrew Bible Survey (Oct. 7, 14, 21, 28) Break for Synod (11/3-5) Module 3: Patristics (Nov. 11, 18, Dec. 9, 16) Note: Module 3 broken into two by break for Thanksgiving week and first week of Advent, for which we will observe the Great Litany. Module 4: New Testament Survey (Jan. 6, 13, 20, 27) Module 5: Biblical Exegesis (Feb. 3, 10, 17, 24) Lenten break - partnered prayer before service throughout March and work on exegesis papers (due April 6). Module 6: American Church History in the Global Historical Context (Apr. 6, 13, 20, 27) Module 7: Anglican Prayer Book (May 4, 11, 18, 25) Module 8: Applied Theology I: Human Development, Spiritual Disciplines, Pastoral Care (June 8, 15, 22, 29) Module 9: Applied Theology II: Community, Vocation, and Care of the Spiritually Abused (July 6, 13, 20, 27) Module 10: Apologetics & Homiletics (Aug. 3, 10, 17, 24)
