Education Week 2020
Four nights for parents and students
May 26 - 29

TUESDAY (26th)

Picture
Building Family Ties in the Midst of COVID-19
7:30-8:30pm

*Appropriate for parents and adults only - Spanish translator available*

As families navigate a “new normal” in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, many are feeling isolated while others are feeling overwhelmed and taxed. Our families are facing new challenges, but we can benefit from identifying ways to stay connected with one another in the midst of a global crisis. Join Dr. Goudelock for a brief presentation wherein she will identify common family concerns and discuss ways to manage COVID-19 as a family unit through slowing down to build connections. After the presentation she will respond to any questions.

Please help Dr. Goudelock prepare for this session by taking this survey.

WEDNESDAY (27th)

An Evening with Francine Rivers (Novelist & Screenwriter)
7:30-8:30pm

*Appropriate for 6-12 students and their parents*

Francine Rivers is joining us to discuss her novel (and now screenplay) Redeeming Love!  The book, which will be released as a film in theaters next year, is a great way to start conversations with kids about love, dating, and self-esteem.  Since 2017, Rev. Goodman (deacon at CCRIO) has used the text to inspire young women to know their worth, encourage young men to understand the ramifications of how they treat women, and inform students about the dangers of human trafficking in South Texas.

The prologue of Redeeming Love is available to read here.

THURSDAY (28th)

Praying Together, Staying Together
7:30-8:30pm

*Most appropriate for parents and their older students - Spanish translator available*

In this season where normal rhythms and structure are disrupted, we have an opportunity to find structure and order in the ancient rhythms of prayer. Parents are invited to join The Rev Dr. Rob Goodman as he teaches simple spiritual practices you can implement at home, including praying and reading scripture together as a family. Father Rob will discuss how can order our family life through the practices gratitude, the prayer of Examen, and the rhythms of family prayer. We will also explore some ways to engage the entire family in the Scriptures through the practices of lectio divina and experiential reading.
